The Formentor road and a spectacular end at its lighthouse
Our home is in the north of Mallorca and therefore, we know that staying at one of our holiday villas in Pollensa is an excellent way to access one of the most popular routes on the island: the road to Formentor. Located in the most northerly point of Mallorca, the road to Formentor is one of the most famous routes on the island and sweeps through the mountains with incredible roads until you eventually reach the Formentor lighthouse, with views over the Mediterranean Sea.
Dare yourself to explore all the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
If you would like to increase the difficulty and intensity of your cycling holiday in Mallorca, we recommend trying a route that covers all the Serra de Tramuntana. It is the largest mountain range in Mallorca, declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO, which covers a 120 kilometre route from Andratx in the the south west to your holiday villa in Pollensa. During this route you’ll pedal along the highest road on the island, Puig Major, and pass Can Costa, Cap de Bosquet, es Grau and el Coll de sa Gramola the total height gain over this route is around 2,500 metres. Along the way you will have the chance to visit the charming towns of Sóller, Deià, Valldemossa, Banyalbufar and Estellencs. All have excellent coffee stops for tired cyclists!
The heart stopping horseshoe bends of Sa Calobra, not far from your holiday villa for cyclists in Mallorca
This is a route which requires a high level of expertise and of medium distance: Sa Calobra, the snake, a small yet mighty place where you will find one of the most spectacular roads on the island. Using your holiday villa for cyclists in Mallorca as your starting point you will enter the mountains climb past Lluc to the conveniently placed café which marks the start of Sa Calobra, enjoy the descent from here. Once at the bottom the only way out is up, the 10 kilometre climb, taking you back to the café is tough but rewarding, in the early season, you will see many pro cyclists training on the climb.
