Driving around Mallorca, or how to spend a golden holiday in and out your rented villa!

Mallorca's scenery is very diverse, full of contrasts and colours, and is easily recognisable as a "cultural" Mediterranean landscape, combined and impregnated as it is with many traces of the monumental work of man, in which the traditions and identity of the Balearic Islands are fused. Mallorca means turquoise coves, extensive evergreen forests and countless hiking trails that will take you to the highest point on the island, 1.445 metres above sea level.

There are many ways to enjoy an unforgettable stay in your holiday villa in Mallorca, from hiking in the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and undoubtedly the most spectacular natural landscape in the Balearic Islands, to bathing in the blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Whoever visits the island, even though it is not for the first time, will always find new ways to make the most of its lovely corners. Whether you're on a short vacation, or staying longer, in this month's blog of Pollentia Rentals, we suggest a number of different driving routes for you to enjoy during the summer, without missing a single sunset!

Driving routes in the northeastern part of Mallorca: paradise is waiting for you!

You may not have had time before occupying your rented villa to plan all your activities, but don't worry, here are some excellent tips for a great holiday. In our  previous blog we spoke about the best cycling routes for your holidays, today we want to offer you a more comfortable alternative: car hire. Renting a car will certainly add to the enjoyment of your holiday villa in Mallorca! As you drive around the island you will come across some of the most charming villages on Mallorca, many of which are also home to restaurants and wineries whose visits can be an unforgettable foodie experience.

On the road to Artá, in the northeastern part of Mallorca

On leaving Puerto de Pollensa, in the direction of Alcudia, follow the road that leads to Artá, some 30 kilometres further on. The Ma-12 is a pleasant motorway, the shortest and quickest way to reach Artá, perhaps the most charming village in the northeast of the island. During part of the drive it is possible to see the sea. A good plan is to leave the car parked in the lower reaches of the municipality, and go up its cobbled streets to the San Salvador Sanctuary, the emblematic fortress of Artá, protected by an impressive fortified wall. Artá is also home to the Ses Païsses Talayotic Site, one of the largest and best preserved prehistoric settlements in Mallorca.

The northeast of Mallorca: a blend of history, tradition and unspoilt natural beauty

Capdepera, Cala Ratjada and coves in the northeast of the island

Following the Ma-15 from Artá, it's a short trip to Capdepera. Its famous castle, a fortress with an impressive walled enclosure that rises above the entire village, is a must see! There are other, more tourist-oriented areas in the northeast of Mallorca, such as Cala Ratjada, with its attractive daytime and nighttime leisure activities. Here we also find Cala Gat, a small cove with a white sandy beach and crystalline waters. Continuing along the peninsula and turning south, you will find several incredible beaches and stunning coves, absolutely ideal for spending a day in the sun, such as Canyamel, Cala Romántica or the virgin cove of Cala Varques. The sleepy fishermen's village of Porto Colom is a perfect place to end the afternoon with a stroll and a delicious ice cream.
